These bison sloppy joes are made with lean and flavorful ground bison, simmered in a rich, tangy sauce, and piled high on a soft bun. They are sure to become a family favorite!
Heat the avocado oil in a large pan over medium heat.
Add the diced onion and diced bell pepper to the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes or until the onions are transparent and have softened.
Add the ground bison to the pan with the cooked onions and bell peppers and cook for 7-8 minutes or until the meat has browned.
Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes.
Add the tomato paste to the pan, combine it with the bison mixture, and cook for 1-2 minutes.
In a small bowl, whisk together the coconut aminos, mustard, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and honey. Then add the sauce to the bison mixture and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Serve your sloppy Joe mixture in between your favorite buns and along with your favorite side. I like to toast my buns in the oven on broil for a few minutes to give them a nice texture and warmth.
