Are you looking for a way to level up your taco Tuesday? This dairy-free avocado crema will take all your Mexican dishes to the next level.

I love a traditional crema to add to my Mexican dishes but they usually use regular sour cream, so I wanted to make a dairy-free version. What I love about this avocado lime crema is that it is such a simple recipe that has so much flavor.

    Ingredients

All the ingredients you need to make vegan avocado crema.

    Substitutions

Limes- If you don't have fresh limes then you can use lemon juice.

Vegan sour cream- I love using the Kite Hill brand of dairy free sour cream but you can use whatever brand you like and can find at your local grocery store.

Garlic- If you don't have fresh garlic you can use garlic powder. I would use ½ teaspoon of garlic powder.

Jalapeno- Adding half of a jalapeno to this Mexican crema adds a nice flavor profile and not a lot of heat. You can leave this out altogether or if you like a spicy creamy sauce then you can add the whole jalapeno.

    Frequently asked questions

What is avocado crema made of?

Avocado crema is made up of avocado, sour cream, cilantro, lime juice, garlic, and salt.

    Does Mexican crema have dairy?

Yes. Traditional Mexican crema uses sour cream as the base. This recipe uses vegan sour cream, making it dairy free.

    What to serve with

This tasty sauce makes a perfect topping for so many dishes. Here are a few ways you can use it.

    • On top of stuffed peppers
    • Use as a dipping sauce for tortilla chips
    • On top of burrito bowls
    • On top of veggie burgers
    • Add a little olive oil or avocado oil to make a creamy avocado dressing. It makes for a perfect salad dressing!
    • Dip your favorite veggies in it

    Tips and notes

I use a regular sized food processor to mix this vegan crema but you can use a mini food processor, a small blender, or even an immersion blender.

If you have a small squeeze bottle you can add this creamy avocado sauce to it to make it easier to drizzle over your favorite dishes.

    Storing

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
